How Will You Die?

If I were a scientist I would want to be a forensic scientist. According to Dictionary.com "forensic science is a branch of medicine used for legal purposes and concerned with determining cause of death, examination of injuries due to crime and negligence, and examination of tissue samples relevant to crimes; also called Forensic pathology." There are many principles and methods of triditional sciences involved with forensics like mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology. Forence science is also a synonym for criminalistics. It encompasses many feilds of science like anthropology, biology, chemistry, engineering, genetics, medicine, pathology, phonetics, psychiatry, and toxicology. To become a forensic scientist the AAFS says, "you need to atleast have your bachelors degree in science."

I want to be a forensic scientist because it brings justice to those who have been murdered. This would make not only the families feel better but also make me feel acomplished with myself. I think that it is very important that we have forensic scientist because the help answer the questions that most people can't. This really appeals to me because I love helping other people and by doing this I will be helping people. Most people will say well you can help people in other ways; why this way? The reason is because my best friend lost a person very close to her. I saw how this effected her and I was just inspired to help others. I think that this would be a good profession for me because you have to think about all the different possibilities that could effect it. This way I would never get bored because everyday is a new adventure.

I think that forensic science will become more and more affective over the years as technology improves with it. This way when things like this happen people can't get away with it. Society will improve because then people will know that the can't get away with things like that then hopefully all crimes will stop.

If You're Dead Are They Still Growing?

The myth is that fingernails and hair can grow after you die. What do you think? Is it really possible that we can continue to grow our hair and fingernails after we die? I know it sounds bizarre; I think so too!

According to Scientist at IU, our bodies produce a chemical called hormones. A hormone is the substance that allows our bodies to grow our hair and fingernails. Although, when we die our bodies shut down and quit producing hormones. So why does it look like they are growing? Snopes say that when we die our bodies dehydrate and our feet, hands, and head shrinks so it makes it look like they are growing. So we do not keep growing hair or fingernails; it is an optical illusion.

Form an in-class survey the data shows that 10 out of 14 students think it is possible for them to continue to grow; however, science shows that it is impossible for them to grow once you die.
